What is the Vancouver Peak Oil Executive (VPOE)?

The VPOE is a small working group set up within Vancouver Peak Oil specifically to network with government, NGO’s, foundations, citizens’ groups and the media, so as to build awareness of the potential effects on the metro Vancouver area of an imminent shortage of oil and other critical natural resources. This working group is currently at work on a number of initiatives including:

  • Planning a Vancouver Tanker Free BC in partnership with other NGO’s, that will lay out the potential impacts of peak oil on the Lower Mainland, examine how these impacts will interact with other challenges like climate change, and suggest a comprehensive set of Big Picture solutions.
  • Working with Tanker Free BC, an assortment of environmental organizations, faith-based groups, and First Nations to stop the oil tankers from plying and despoiling the waters of BC. We are drawing the “green line” in BC. Tar Sands oil shall not be transported on our waters.
  • Assisting VPO members in putting on a series of evening panels featuring representatives from all sectors of the Lower Mainland community, to generate discussion about how to get our region ready for Peak Oil.

Organizations interested in having VPOE members assist in planning or make presentations should contact Vandy Savage.
