It is par for the course that with oil hovering between $70 and $80 per barrel Americans have continued to buy SUVs and Trucks at a rapid pace. Politicians don’t have constituents screaming at them because gas is $4.00 per gallon, so it is no longer an issue for them. They need to focus on the November elections. It is no time to discuss a difficult issue that requires foresight and honesty. It is no time to tell the American public that oil will be over $200 a barrel within the next 5 years. Anyone who would go on CNBC today and declare that oil will be over $200 a barrel would be eviscerated by bubble head Bartiromo or clueless Kudlow. Bartiromo filled up her Escalade this morning for $2.60 a gallon, so there is no looming crisis on the horizon. The myopic view of the world by politicians, the mainstream media and the American public in general is breathtaking to behold. Despite the facts slapping them across the face, Americans believe cheap oil is here to stay. It is their right to have an endless supply of cheap oil. The American way of life has been granted by God. We are the chosen people.

This week I received a response to my Freedom of Information request to the Ministry of Transportation in British Columbia. My request read:

Under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, I am requesting information including Ministry staff and/or consultant reports, Ministerial briefings, memorandums, emails, or other records on the topic of peak oil (declining fossil fuel availability, the price of oil, gas and diesel, and other related topics) and the impact on highway traffic volumes, traffic design standards, alternative transportation options and road maintenance and construction funding.

My intention in asking for this stemmed from a search on the Ministry of Transportation website for the phrase “Peak Oil” to which there are no results. I thought that surely it is in the public’s best interests to know what the Ministry intends to do with its assets worth billions of dollars (that are still being expanded), and can be maintained only with cheap, plentiful oil – not the likely situation in years to come, so I went through the Freedom of Information channel…

I am writing this article to shine some light on what the NDP and their psuedo-enviromentalist bought-and-paid-for associates are doing in their attempts to discredit First Nations involvement in run-of-river development projects.

Real environmentalist organizations should ask for a First Nation perspective on the facts (as they have many times in the past) before embracing the fear-mongering hysteria being perpetuated by the NDP and unions as it tarnishes their credibility as stewards of the land.

I have personally attended several of these NDP so-called “public meetings” (they would not let me speak at one) on run of river issues, two of which were in Campbell River and one was with Rafe Mair in attendance.

It was a “million dollar” experience I would not pay a nickel to do again. I now know these people will say or do anything to get in control of your tax dollars.

Truth and facts do not even enter into their blathering as they are only concerned with promoting their political agenda. Read the complete Post.
