No. On Portland Peak Oil’s model, Vancouver Peak Oil (VPO) – the citizen’s group – is the generator of events, money, volunteers, outreach sessions, and so on. The Vancouver Peak Oil Executive (VPOE) is a small group of experts in peak-oil related issues (energy, urban planning, agriculture, sustainability, economics, engineering, etc.), and a complementary small group of media professionals who assist VPO in publicizing the ideas and efforts of those experts.

If you look at our TAKE ACTION page, you’ll see that the VPO needs volunteerism and leadership in a variety of areas. We’d love to have you step in as a VPO leader. There’s a great deal to be done in terms of spreading awareness – starting right a the bottom, with the majority of people who have never even HEARD the term “peak oil” – and our monthly meetup group is in DIRE need of getting organized along Portland’s model of a regular weekly drop-in meeting, with speakers, movies, resources and refreshments in a dedicated venue. (That short list also suggests weekly “suggested donations” of a dollar or two from those who come to the meetings – another issue the VPO hasn’t even begun to deal with.)

So, if you’re up for some or all of that, we need your help. Sign up as a VPO member on Facebook if you haven’t, start getting signatures for the Peak Oil Task Force petition, and help us work on finding a free venue for the meetups (currently monthly but hopefully weekly soon) that has the appropriate A/V equipment, setup for refreshments, etc.

There’ll be much more to do — events, PR, political activism, fund-raising, etc. — as time goes on.
