VPOE is working with NGO’s, foundations, citizens' groups and the media to build awareness of the imminent peak oil crisis and its potential effects on the metro Vancouver area. They are currently in the planning stages of a Vancouver Peak Oil Task Force and a Vancouver Food Security conference to be held in Spring 2008.

Powering down on Sundays... you know back in the day - ya, 1970 something - that's what we did. Everything was closed (forget liquor sales, that was the province of Washington) and we played road hockey, cleaned up the house, go to church if so inclined, have a Sunday roast beef dinner, do the dishes and catch Disney. That was Sunday and no catch phrase required.

This stands as a mile post for "where have we gone wrong". I wish it were as simple as cultural introspection, but in the end we are all passengers on the Entropy train. Ya, what happened to Sundays is the population grew, we used more energy and thermodynamics caught up to us. So we stand as the naked ape beating our chest against the very forces of nature we eloquentally defined and wonder why our techno-monkey brain has defied us.

And the secret to powering down on Sundays? Say no. No more.
